LibertySurf has dashed hopes that it would reopen registration to its unmetered internet package by introducing a pay-per-minute service.
The internet service provider (ISP) stopped selling the dial-up software for its unmetered service at the start of June after it said an "exceptionally high level of demand" had led to network congestion and had jammed its help line.
LibertySurf was expected to start selling its software again through Comet and MVC stores once the backlog problems had been rectified. But the ISP has instead introduced its Classic service offering internet access for the cost of a local call.
Paul Shalet, marketing director at the company, said: "We are pleased to confirm that in response to consumer demand, we have introduced a new product which is currently in selected Comet stores."
LibertySurf said it would continue to offer the £20 unmetered package to its existing 50,000 "highly satisfied consumers", and that it does not rule out the possibility of reopening registration to its unmetered offering in the future, although it has no plans "at present".
The Classic service is free to join with online charges made at the local 0845 rate.
