Frozen food specialist Iceland has added environmentally friendly fridges and freezers to the range of products it already sells online.

Shoppers will now be able to search Iceland's website for the retailer's own range of Kyoto eco-friendly fridges and freezers that have been endorsed by Greenpeace.

Customers can search for an appliance based on size, energy-saving qualities or price, and can order the product online with delivery promised within 24 hours.

Iceland hopes the move will boost sales, and educate consumers on the harmful effects of HFC gases used in most fridges. "These produce 200,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year and are a significant threat to the climate," said Sara Jamison, Iceland's sales and marketing director.

Iceland claims that its website is attracting 23,000 hits per week from consumers.
