AOL claims no damage done after last week's attack

AOL is confident that the recent phishing attack on its customers failed to cause any harm.

The phishing email was spammed out at the end of last week purporting to come from AOL's security department.

The message asked users to download software at the enclosed URL, which directed them to a phishing site that attempted to steal personal log-in information.
"AOL's security team discovered this phishing attack earlier this week and immediately blocked all incoming emails to our members containing the URL of the attacking site," said Andrew Weinstein, a spokesman for AOL US.

"We have also updated our phishing block list so that members cannot get to the site even if they receive a link to it through another source, like an external email or instant message. Instead, they will receive a warning screen and be blocked from reaching it."
