Sega has said it will support Dolby Surround sound in the next version of its Dreamcast operating system, due for release in June.
The Dolby Surround release libraries, which will come with version r11, will support up to eight channels of real-time sound positioning, said Sega.
"Dolby Surround will enable games developers to add audio in software that will put gamers in the centre of the action," said a Sony spokesperson.
Dolby's content licensing programme stipulates that games displaying the Dolby logo must contain both real-time surround effects and linear content, encoded with a certified Dolby Surround linear encoder.
