Yahoo has announced a major shakeup of its oneSearch mobile software service.
The company is to add voice capabilities to its iPhone application, allowing users to conduct web searches with voice commands, as well as customise preferences on the 'my interests' page for the service.
OneSearch is a mobile search service released in eight languages for the iPhone, BlackBerry, Nokia and Windows Mobile platforms. Yahoo estimates that more than 80 handsets currently support the service.
The updates will come at the expense of one of Yahoo's other mobile offerings. The company's standalone mobile application has been discontinued in favour of the iPhone and browser-based mobile services.
Rebuilding its mobile service has been a major tenet of Yahoo's efforts to strengthen its brand in recent months as the company has looked to move forward under new chief executive Carol Bartz.
