PC World is looking to appoint a director of robotics

If your skills combine retail with robotics, and you can face a daily commute to PC World's head office in Hemel Hempstead, it could be time to give your CV a dusting down.

The UK's largest chain of computing superstores is on the hunt for a director of robotics, who will be responsible for sourcing and expanding the range of robots on PC World shelves.

"We are at a tipping point in the history of robotics," said Paul Mitford, director of HR at PC World.

"Sales figures for robotic devices at PC World at Christmas exceeded our expectations and we are keen to expand the range that we sell.

"The days of these devices taking halting steps across the carpet on Christmas day are coming to an end."

PC World's enthusiasm was apparently fuelled by January's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which featured an array of robots designed specifically for consumers.

Meccano's Spykee Robot range, a surveillance tool for the home that can also be used for VoIP calls, received a 'silver' rating in the company's 'best in show' CES awards.

"Consumer robotics is a sector that is expanding rapidly and we are betting that we will all have some kind of robot servant in our homes within 10 years," said PC World group buying director Simon Turner.
