Network Box has launched an email archiving service designed to offer an affordable, cloud-based system featuring advanced search capabilities.
The service, based on Webroot's email archiving service, offers unlimited email storage and, given its cloud-based architecture, removes upfront licensing and hardware costs.
The system integrates with Microsoft Outlook to capture emails when they are sent or received, and sends them to Webroot using either TLS or SSL encryption.
To ensure greater protection, the emails are replicated across geographically dispersed datacentres, according to Network Box.
Advanced search capabilities will help support customers' e-discovery requirements, the firm added.
"It is more important than ever for businesses to be able to locate data quickly for legal reasons," said Network Box internet security analyst Simon Heron.
"Email archiving is an important part of compliance. A cloud solution is perfect for email archiving, as it takes the onus of storage and hardware costs off the business."
E-discovery been an important requirement in the US since amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure several years ago.
However, it is gaining increasing traction in the UK in highly regulated industries, a trend predicted and exploited to good effect by software firm Autonomy when it acquired Zantaz and Meridio.
