Ipswitch promises secure and manageable file transfers

File-transfer security firm Ipswitch has unveiled an enterprise grade server designed to provide better management, visibility and policy enforcement when transferring data within or outside an organisation.

MoveIT DMZ Enterprise 7.0 is designed to offer more than security, according to the company, which cited a survey claiming that 70 per cent of IT staff had no visibility into files moving around outside their company.

Ipswitch suggested that data breaches, regulatory compliance and corporate governance had prompted companies to place too much emphasis on data security at the expense of better management and a clearer understanding of files being transferred.

The new product is designed to provide end-to-end visibility, management and policy enforcement to allow access to information about internal and external file transfers.

Jonathan Lampe, vice president of product management at Ipswitch, claimed that the MoveIT DMZ Enterprise 7.0 server will bring about a major change in the way organisations move data.

"We are setting a new standard for managed file transfer, delivering visibility and control, while making it easier than ever for end users to securely transfer files of any size," he said.

The server also offers an optional Ad Hoc Transfer module that provides secure person-to-person file transfer via a web browser or Microsoft Outlook. Ipswitch said that this will enable firms to share information and stay within compliance.

"The Outlook plug-in provides a seamless employee experience as they interact with people inside or outside the organisation," said Lampe.

MoveIT DMZ Enterprise 7.0 will be launched at Infosecurity Europe later this month. A single licence costs £8,865, while the Ad Hoc Transfer Module costs £4,255.
