An undocumented feature in Google's newly launched UK Maps service suggests that leading British restaurants and even a regional police HQ are actually 'brothels'.
For example, a search on the Google mapping site for Maidstone lists the Kent County Constabulary HQ as a brothel.
When vnunet.com contacted the Kent and County Constabulary HQ our enquiry was met with the comment: "Google is aware of it and is dealing with it. I do not think that people will get us confused with a brothel. That's not a quote."
Should the searcher not find exactly what he or she is looking for at the Maidstone Police HQ, searching on the string 'brothels' in nearby Sevenoaks pulls up The Anglesey Arms pub, Hapstead Volvo Croydon and, most puzzlingly perhaps, the Kent Adult Education Institute.
The problem was uncovered by the Edinburgh Evening News Online which noted that the city's restaurants and even a Christian publishing house are listed as brothels by Google.
According to the local news site, Google's 10 'brothels' in Edinburgh include the International Film Festival headquarters, the home of the Edinburgh Fringe on the Royal Mile, and the offices of The Banner of Truth Trust, a Christian publishing house.
