Swype users can type words by dragging a stylus over the letters

Nokia has released a beta version of the Swype typing tool designed for the Symbian smartphone platform.

Swype is billed as one of the fastest ways to input text on mobile handsets, allowing users to type words by dragging a finger or stylus over the letters on a touch-screen keyboard.

The software then suggests possible words from the selected letters, eliminating the need to individually type letters.

Swype integration was one of the key features of Samsung's Galaxy S tablet device.

The Swype for Symbian beta supports Symbian installations on Nokia's S60 fifth edition touch-screen mobile handsets, including the 5800, 5230, N97, C6-00, and X6.

Languages supported by Swype include US English, Spanish, Canadian French and Brazilian Portuguese.

The tool can be installed through a PC connection or SD card.
