Pat Gelsinger is heading up Intel's enterprise business unit single-handed after the surprise departure of Abhi Talwalkar, co-general manager of the group.

The two had been running the group together after Intel's reorganisation at the start of the year. Talwalkar has now left to pursue "another opportunity" as president of processor maker LSI Logic.

Paul Otellini, Intel president and chief executive, said: "I want to wish Abhi well and congratulate Pat on his expanded role. The Digital Enterprise Group is in excellent hands."

A second member of the Intel management team, Sandra Morris, vice president and general manager of Intel's Mobility Group, has also left the company. She will be moving to Kodak to head up its digital imaging division.
