ECS is updating its EZ Buddie series of small form factor systems over the coming months, and has turned to Linux for its multimedia capabilities.
The EZ Buddie2 uses dual operating systems inside. For computing functionality, the Personal Entertainment Computers (PECs) come with Windows XP, but for multimedia applications, they use EZ Cinema running on Linux.

EZ Cinema on Linux is cheaper for ECS to run than Windows Media Center, and this, along with its design, will attract open source fans.
The PECs also have a CPU Tuner, letting risk-averse users easily overclock the system.
The first EZ Buddie 2, the D21 I4-3, comes out later this month and its shape reflects the growing trend to make PCs that resemble mini-hifi units. It will be followed by the D22 in August and the D23 around September.
The systems currently run on Springdale, but will shortly move over to Intel's 915 and 925X chipsets, with AMD versions shipping later.
The company is also shipping four motherboards on the new chipset - two ATX and two microATX - plus a board for the 939-pin AMD.
