Cable & Wireless (C&W) has rolled out an e-procurement system which it claims will save the company £25m a year in operating costs.
The first part of the system to go live was online auctions which C&W used for its energy spending, such as electricity. This has already meant a 22 per cent reduction in energy spend for this year, saving the company £1.4m.

The current economic downturn has increased the pressure on cost savings and return on investment, explained Martin Ward, senior vice president of global procurement at C&W.
"E-procurement is providing a vehicle to deliver more focused governance over the procurement process, thereby leading to an improvement in our gross margin," he said.
Purchasing capability for C&W in the UK has just been completed and a team from Accenture is currently rolling out the programme in the US with 100 supplier catalogues available for online purchase.
The company hopes to implement the system in Japan and the rest of Europe by the middle of next year when it will be able to carry out online trading with more than 500 suppliers.
