Virgin Media Business is to improve its Ethernet Extensions and High Capacity Service offerings by enhancing its point-to-point connections to meet expanding requirements to send data between locations.
The firm claimed that it has improved its Ethernet Extension capabilities to handle speeds of 10Gbit/s, up from 1Gbit/s, following huge demand from several sectors to move vast amounts of data instantly.
"There has been an explosion of data in all markets in the last few years that people need to transmit instantly to one another, and we are aiming to meet these growing needs," said David Green, a product manager at Virgin Media Business.
"With this service we can run a dedicated fibre connection between two locations that firms can use for whatever purpose they require, with Virgin Media Business providing proactive management and support."
The company claimed that the connections can run up to a distance of 35km, and said that pricing will depend on a customer's individual requirements.
A new Dedicated High Capacity Service, meanwhile, will provide connectivity for up to 40 10Gbit/s connections between two sites, such as from a company's premises to a datacentre, to help maintain high speeds over long distances.
"We have worked with an optical networking firm called Transmode to offer vastly reduced latency on the transmissions and reduced power use to make data transfers over long distances far more efficient," said Green.
"With the Carbon Reduction Commitment and the increasing distance of new datacentres from major cities, there is a growing need to connect to data in this way on secure, fast and efficient connections."
Green added that customers can easily expand the level of service they need, helping to make the cost of the service more manageable. Pricing for the Dedicated High Capacity Service will also be offered on a bespoke basis.
