Microsoft has admitted that it has received a number of complaints about technical problems with its new Xbox 360 gaming system.
Some owners complained that their systems were crashing during game play, sometimes with error messages coming up.
"I popped Perfect Dark Zero in and about 30-40 minutes in the 360 just turned off. I had no clue what happened," wrote one gamer by the name of 'Makaveli87' on the Team Xbox enthusiast website.
In an informal poll run by the site, 48 users claimed to have had issues with their new gaming systems. Eighty five per cent of the respondents reported no issues.
Another user was told by Xbox support that his issues appears to be related to a broken hard drive that comes bundled with the Premium version of the gaming console.
"[Microsoft] said they have received numerous calls already. I unplugged my hard drive and it worked fine. Put it back on my box and red [error] lights again," 'Zeebo' reported on Xbox Scene.com.
"Now it doesn't even work without the hard drive. I still get the three flashing red lights," he later added.
Microsoft has asked anyone with problems to contact the company so it can ship the device back for testing if it cannot be solved over the phone. It said the glitches reported so far are within expectations for a product of such complexity.
"We have received a few isolated reports of consoles not working as expe cted. The call rate is well below what you'd expect for a consumer electronics product of this complexity," said an Xbox spokeswoman.
"Each incident is unique and these customer inquires are being handled on a case-by-case basis."
According to gaming website Spong user reports mainly centre around Project Gotham Racing 3. Some have complained of lock-outs and other errors, seemingly stemming from a faulty memory unit within the machine.
Other faults have included error numbers E79, E67, E74, E35 appearing on the screen, again thought to be related to Ram problems.
Microsoft started selling the Xbox 360 in the US at midnight on Tuesday. The device will go on sale in Europe on 2 December, followed by an Asian launch on 10 December.

My sons x box 360 died with the rings of death, After ringing the helpline we wre told to box it up and a courier would collect it from our house and it would sent to Germany for repair. It was sent back unrepaired as they said it had been tampered with. This is a lie, it was only 10 month old and still under guarantee so why would we tamper with it. We rang up to complain and were told that it was microsofts final decission not to repair and the matter was clossed. We think they are making up an excuse because they have too many repairs to deal with. It is just not on, they need to get their act together , people are spending a fortune on these consoles they are not cheap.

3 Red Lights
I've had my 360 for less than a month and the same red lights have revealed themselves. The funny thing is that I haven't left it on for excessive amounts of time or anything. It's a joke. Don't ever buy a 360.

This Sux
Microsoft knows this problem has occured before with many others and they can not admit they are at fault. It is not fair to us as "valued" customers to be loyal and pay for their products, but then have to deal with problems like this, and pay to send them the console, and pay to have it fixed. One moment its working and the next its not, what the hell is wrong with that. This Sux.

7 Months and 3 red lights
I have had my Xbox for over 3 years and my 360 breaks within 7 months. I have bought a lot of games and just renewed my xbox live. Then they want me to pay 139 to fix something i have already invested a lot of money and will continue if it still worked. I have talked them down to 70 by complaining but I beleive this is still to much. If anything i'll pay shipping and handling. I been talking to a couple of people on xbox live and they told me that they were able to get theirs fixed for free. So keep getting on them and maybe we can get all of ours fixed.

9 months and three red lights in Canada
Hello, I'm feeling like a member of quite a group now!!! Today after 9 months of ownership I have three blinking lights on the console. Stopped working, blue screen only. Called tech support and told it's an internal hard drive issue and I'll have to send in for repair. Same cost as all of you and they are requesting payment up front by credit card before even seeing what is wrong!!! I told them that I thought it was incredibly nervey for them to ask for this type of money after I spent$632.00 in January for the system and wireless controller package!!!! I can't believe that after 3 months of warranty it's up. Now they were "oh so kind enough" to remind me that I should have purchased an extended warranty when I bought it at the Best Buy store. Guess that was my mistake but I didn't have the cash after spending it all on this piece of crap console!!! Looking on line tonight to see what kind of response Microsoft has released....only finding the basic reply..."small number of complaints"....If anyone happens to hear about a class action suit regarding reimbursement for repair costs, please post on line because I'm in!!! Thanks

Feeling ripped off!
I have had my 360 for about eight months and now i'm visited by 3 flashing red lights. The thing will not even come on anymore. I can't beleive Microsoft is not standing behind their product. I dont have 129.00 just laying around to give them to fix something that shouldn't have broke in the first place.

9 months and already broker
I have bought many game systems for my children and paid alot less. I have never had any problem with any system befor buying the xbox 360. We have had it for less than a year and they want me to pay 129.00 to have it fixed. The problem is that is the 3 blinking lights that alot of other people are seeing. We all need to stick together and make something happen to get this resolved. It seems to me that this is just another way for them to take our money. I believe the $400 I paid them to begin with was already way to much. That was my fault I admit, but it is not my fault that the system is broken after only 9 months of use.

Microsoft making us pay to fix it
We have the same problem as everyone else with our xbox.. red lights, wont turn on. when it does, it plays any game for about 10 minutes before freezing and locking up... more red lights. Calling microsoft taught us that we'd have to PAY to ship the unit to them, pay $129 over the phone BEFORE they even GOT THE UNIT to fix it (how do they know it can be fixed without looking at it?! maybe because they know what the problem is since they all have the same problem with the design?) Why do we have to pay for their defects?
