Online virus generator will return

The creator of the now infamous online virus generator, shut down earlier this week after vnunet.com's exposé, has vowed to bring the site back.

The 15 year-old Romanian coder, who only identifies himself as Smecher Piratul, which translates as 'sly pirate', told vnunet.com that "the site will be resurrected for sure somewhere else".

His homepage, which housed the Instant Macro Virus Maker was closed down earlier this week by its free hosting provider, Freeservers.com.

The online generator's ability to allow users to create a fully functioning macro virus in less than a minute without even downloading software attracted a lot of attention, most of it critical.

"The publicity was good, but it seems that it had some negative effects," said the teen virus author. "My site has been shut down 'cause the assholes from Freeservers don't understand that virus making is actually programming and my site had a clearly written disclaimer about this."

Piratul maintains that he does not spread viruses or intend to cause damage and, for what it's worth, the now ex-site did contain a disclaimer, and the source code for all its viruses was relatively harmless.

"I never spread viruses and I don't encourage this and I always use kewl payloadz," he said.

Until he finds a new home for the online virus generator, Piratul has other projects to work on including the development of viruses that work with each other and against other viruses, and the implementation of artificial intelligence into instant messenger viruses.

But the teen coder is more annoyed that virus writing isn't seen as proof of concept programming in the eyes of the industry and the law. "I never did no harm to nobody," he said. "So why shut my site?"
