Peripherals manufacturer Logitech has unveiled a selection of high-definition webcams that it claims will improve and simplify video calling.
The models all work with the firm's free Vid HD online video calling service, as well as competing services from Skype.
Logitech said that, as well as making video calls between friends and family much clearer, the HD quality will win favour among enterprises looking to improve their videoconferencing systems.
Prices start at £24.99 for the entry-level C270, which can take 3-megapixel photos, rising to £89.99 for the top-of-the-range 10-megapixel HD Pro C910.
The C910 also offers two microphones for better sound, and adds a "modern, minimalist touch to your laptop or desktop computer setup", the firm said.
The webcams can swivel through 360 degrees, and offer one-click uploads which should make it easier to upload pictures and HD video to the web.
The models come with a range of editing tools, and 'Fluid Crystal technology' designed to improve colours, pictures and sound.
"HD video calling is a critical step towards our vision of a world in which video communication is as mainstream and seamless as a telephone call for anyone, anywhere," said Eric Kintz, vice president and general manager of Logitech's video business.
"With Logitech HD webcams and Vid HD, you have everything you need to share, connect and see the people that matter to you in breathtaking detail that far surpasses the quality of embedded webcams."
The Logitech launch caps off a busy week in the videoconferencing space with Cisco announcing it has added Telepresence Interoperability Protocol to Tandberg products to offer i nteroperability between both videoconferencing portfolios.
Also this week HP announced it is to partner with videoconferencing provider Vidyo to expand its Halo portfolio of collaboration products.
