Microsoft is planning to issue a relatively low-key monthly security update this month.
The July instalment of the Patch Tuesday update will contain four bulletins, each addressing vulnerabilities rated 'important', the third of Microsoft's four security alert levels.
If no new bulletins are added before the release on 8 July, it will be the first month since the update-free March 2007 in which Microsoft has not released a fix for a 'critical' vulnerability.
Of the four bulletins due to be released, only one addresses an issue which could allow for remote code execution, a common target for malware attacks.
Microsoft did not specify the exact location of the flaw, but said that it arises only in Windows Vista and Server 2008 systems.
Two of the bulletins repair vulnerabilities that could be used by an attacker to obtain elevated privileges on a targeted system.
One of the bulletins affects only Exchange Server, while the second will be issued for the SQL components in Windows 2000, Server 2003 and Server 2008.
The fourth bulletin will address a flaw in Windows 2000, XP Server 2003 and Server 2008.
The July security update is expected to be released next Tuesday during US business hours.

programs stop working after update was nstalled
I've have an old program which has worked fine until a resent update left it unworkable, rolled back and it corrected also disabled auto update in fear that microsoft is trying to do away with the older os and there programs making them obsolete. very concern

Win XP update & Zone Alarm
The XP update dated 7/8/08 does not play well with systems running Zone Alarm. Symptoms: all network software reports you are connected but you're NOT. POP3 does not connect; web pages do not display. 3 hours of ATT tech (hahahaha) support later, after telling them I suspected the update, and that I ran ZA, I finally reached a person who told me about this conflict. I wish I could give you the name of the file, but I uninstalled it, during the process (finally fixed it myself, btw) and told it not to tell me about it again. Tomorrow when my left ear recovers, I'll call the MS 866 number (866-PCSAFETY) and see if I can patch the MS problem w/o hosing my internet connection again.

07/08/09 MS Update.
I also agree with "Marian L. Zaouk, 09 Jul 2008". I have 3 desktop and 2 laptop computers set up for automatic updates, (one laptop has Vista). I also run ZoneAlarm Pro. All five of the computers were unable to connect to the internet after installation of the latest updates. After using "restore" back prior to update, all was well. I isolated the culpert to be the update KB951478. I blocked it and my internet connection works. Unfortunately, I also had to disable all of the "Auto-updates" on all 5 computers. If anyone hears of any other corrective solutions, I would really appreciate the post.
