Next-generation networking provider Exponential-e has reacted to the passing of Digital Economy Bill by releasing new software designed to help firms block illegal material from reaching their systems.
The firm said that its new A3 software and services will let IT managers monitor content on their systems, while adhering to a range of regulations and laws.
The software is cost-effective and easy to deploy, according to Exponential-e, and identifies and controls access to web-based applications being used in an organisation.
The company quoted research suggesting that over 80 per cent of IT managers have "no idea" of the applications running on their corporate internet, and warned that staff often choose to download illegal content at work because of the high connection speeds.
"A3's low monthly cost and the fact that clients don't need any hardware makes it ideal for the mass market," said Lee Wade, managing director of Exponential-e.
"A3 means that businesses can see exactly what internet traffic they have, and lets them get rid of the rogue stuff whilst guaranteeing the performance of the good bits. A3 should be considered as the antidote to the Digital Economy Bill."
Access to all web applications can be controlled, the firm explained, and IT managers can set usage and data allowance policies across the board. Reports can be produced for analysis, and usage thresholds can be created to prevent abuse.
This is likely to prove useful in monitoring the use of cloud applications, according to Exponential-e, and will help software-as-a-service users fine-tune the use of applications.
"A3 enables ICT teams to fine-tune their own business applications directly, and ensure they are running as efficiently as possible. This kind of control has never been available before," said Mukesh Bavisi, director of engineering at Exponential-e.
