Leaked photographs claiming to show posters from Apple's latest advertising campaign have led many to expect a video version of the iPod to be announced later today.
The images can be seen here.
The photos show a wider than usual iPod with the largest screen yet, indicating the device's possible use to display video.
The devices also differ from the standard iPod in that the headphone jack is on the side of the machine, as opposed to being in the centre.
The launch is being held in strict secrecy and rumours of a video iPod have been topping the speculation lists.
Other options include a new PowerBook or an extension to the Power PC range.
