Arista's 7500 series is aimed at large datacentres

Arista Networks has launched its Arista 7500 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) switching platform that it claims will help to maximise datacentre performance, efficiency and reliability.

The firm said that the device has been designed to provide 10Tbit/s of switching capacity in order to meet the growing requirements of datacentres to host new services.

"Cloud networking requires a new class of scale, performance and resilience not addressed with existing modular switches. The introduction of the Arista 7500 ushers in the next phase of the datacentre industry," said Arista chief executive Jayshree Ullal.

The Arista 7500 features 384 wirespeed L2/L3 10GbE ports, with a 4.5usec port-to-port latency.

Arista also claimed that the switch is five times faster than other modular switches, but uses just one tenth of the power per wirespeed port.

Andy Bechtolsheim, Arista's chief development officer, claimed that the new product would help meet the requirements of datacentres now and in the future.

"This platform was designed and engineered with the performance and capability to continue to scale and address the most challenging and demanding datacentre requirements, including future 40Gb and 100Gb Ethernet," he said.

The Arista 7500 runs on the company's Extensible Operating System to provide modular software design with state-sharing architecture, open access to Linux tools and extensible network service to offer integration with third-party applications.

The Arista 7500 series is available now and starts at $140,000 (£90,871). A fully configured system is on offer for $1,200 (£778) per wirespeed port.
