Red Hat has sealed a deal with Network Appliance to develop iSCSI IP storage area networks based on the Linux platform.
Under the terms of the deal, Red Hat and Network Appliance are committed to supporting the iSCSI software initiator in the upcoming Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 Update 4 as well as future Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions based on the new Linux 2.6 kernel.

Additionally, Red Hat said the partnership means that its Global File System (GFS) and Cluster Suite are supported with Network Appliance storage systems.
Red Hat currently uses Network Appliance systems for several of its internal applications, including the Red Hat Network and other applications based on Oracle.
Paul Cormier, executive vice president of engineering at Red Hat, said: "Red Hat and NetApp have collaborated to develop enterprise-level Linux grid environments using an iSCSI-based GFS product suite."
