Alcatel-Lucent has extended its mobile enterprise security solution for laptops to the HSPA-based MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot from Novatel Wireless.
The MiFi is a mobile broadband device that can be used to create personal 'clouds' of high-speed internet connectivity for sharing between groups and devices.
The inclusion of the Novatel system with Alcatel-Lucent's OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian broadens its range and is the first enterprise application available for the device.
"As the number of remote and mobile workers increases, organisations need to ensure that they can securely track, manage and control laptops and the data they contain," said Michel Emelianoff, head of enterprise security at Alcatel-Lucent.
"With the joint solution, organisations can economically extend their reach and control over mobile laptops, and protect assets and business-critical information. Alcatel-Lucent continues to develop innovative solutions and creative ways to deploy them."
Alcatel-Lucent's OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian technology offers an automatic virtual private network using Wi-Fi and 3G as well as GPS.
The firm said that it could be used by companies looking for better control over workers' devices, as it includes the ability to update security protection and has a 'remote kill' feature that works even when the device is turned off.
