UK vendor VeryPC has announced a new range of green desktops which it claims will easily exceed Energy Star 5 requirements, and meet the DEFRA Quick Wins specifications for public sector procurement.

Available from the end of October, the Broadleaf range is available in an ultra-small form factor that supports a Vesa mount for attaching to the back of a monitor or underside of a desk.

The three models exceed Energy Star 5 restrictions on power consumption by up to 55 per cent, according to the firm.

VeryPC also said that the Broadleaf range is one of the first to be given a Class Leader award in the DEFRA Quick Wins sustainable specifications for procurers.

The Intel-based systems start with an entry-level model shipping with a 2.6GHz dual-core Pentium E5300 processor and 2GB memory, and a power consumption of 31.38W. It is priced from £449.

The mid-range model has a 3GHz Core 2 Duo E8400 and 3GB memory, with a power consumption of 32.59W, and is priced from £549.

At the high end is a unit with a quad-core 2.33GHz Q8200S chip and 4GB memory, with power consumption of 24.7W and priced at £649.

Each Broadleaf chassis is made entirely from aluminium, making it easy to recycle under WEEE regulations, according to the firm. The systems also have PVC-free cabling, and do not use halogen or brominated fire retardants.

All three ship with Windows 7 Business Edition, and will be available following the official launch of Microsoft's new platform on 22 October.
