Sun Microsystems yesterday announced a strategic agreement with US storage vendor Imation to develop current and future storage products.
Under the agreement, Sun and Imation will work towards the development and launch of an extension to the existing Sun StorageTek T9840 drive platform.
Imation will become an approved supplier to Sun StorageTek for branded LTO-2 and LTO-3 tape cartridges.
The companies will also investigate alternative recording media technologies, including Imation's Ulysses, for potential future integration into Sun's automated tape library product line.
Sun has a long standing relationship with Imation as a customer, which grew closer last year when Sun completed the $4.1bn acquisition of StorageTek, one of Imation's major OEM partners.
Imation was the development partner for enterprise tape cartridges used with StorageTek's T9840 and T9940 tape drives.
