Podcasting equipment belonging to vnunet.com has been impounded by HM Revenues and Customs

Correspondent Iain Thomson had been using the recorder and microphone to create the website's daily bulletin of news stories during a trip to Novell BrainShare in Salt Lake City.

The equipment was sent back to vnunet.com's UK offices using the UPS shipping service.

However, if the items had been bought in the US and shipped to the UK they would be subject to VAT charges and the carrier has impounded the equipment until vnunet.com can prove otherwise.

The items will now be delivered on Monday, subject to a VAT and admin charge.

Fans of Thomson's work need not fear. Rumours of an upcoming vacation in America's sunny Guantanamo Bay holiday camp are exaggerated.
