The Studio Hybrid uses 70 per cent less power than a standard desktop system

Dell has launched a range of desktop PCs which it claims are among the company's most environmentally friendly products.

The Studio Hybrid PC line, intended to complement the Studio laptops launched last month, uses 70 per cent less power than a standard desktop system and is around 80 per cent smaller.

The system has been designed to be as small as possible, at 196.5mm x 71.5mm x 211.5mm so that it can fit into most settings.

"Our goal was to design a desktop that fits in the office or in the living room, or anywhere that space is at a premium," said Michael Scheschuk, general manager of desktop product development at Dell.

"We have created a desktop PC category that combines style, performance and a high degree of energy efficiency."

The range also ships with 30 per cent less packaging, 95 per cent of which is recyclable, and 75 per cent less documentation. It comes with six coloured sleeves in Bamboo, Emerald, Quartz, Ruby, Sapphire, Slate, and Topaz.

"The design and craftsmanship of the Studio Hybrid are enough to cause you to do a double take," said Michael Tatelman, vice president global consumer sales and marketing at Dell.

"Combine that with the performance of this little beauty, and its environmentally smart DNA, and you have something truly unique, something that you can make your own."

The computers will run Intel Core2Duo processors and the basic specification model will cost $499.
