Yahoo has agreed to a deal with social gaming developer Zynga that will use online gaming to increase the use of its site.
The company said that it will offer access to gaming platforms from Zynga through the Yahoo games service, as part of efforts to widen its software offerings.
Yahoo hopes to advance its games platform as well as its Messenger, My Yahoo and Yahoo ID platforms.
"Get ready for some exciting and engaging new titles coming to Yahoo that you can easily play with your friends, family and fellow gamers and share with your networks across Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter and Zynga," said Cody Simms, senior director of developer network and social platforms at Yahoo.
The move is part of an ongoing Yahoo campaign to overhaul its operations and focus on its search and web portal operations.
Previous moves have included the acquisition of user-generated content service Associated Content and a mapping deal with Nokia.
Zynga has made a name for itself through hit games for Facebook such as Mafia Wars and Farmville, and has proved highly successful at turning games into revenue.
