Microsoft has issued three security patches for its software systems.

Although none of the fixes are rated as critical, one update, covering Office XP, is deemed 'important', Microsoft's second highest rating. Patches will be available for download from 18:00 GMT today.

The three patches cover the following areas:

MS04-008 addresses vulnerability in Microsoft Windows and has a maximum severity rating of 'moderate'.

MS04-009 addresses vulnerability in Microsoft Office XP and has a maximum severity rating of 'important'.

MS04-010 addresses vulnerability in Microsoft MSN Messenger and has a maximum severity rating of 'moderate'.

Microsoft said the MSN Messenger patch had been prompted by a security vulnerability uncovered late last week, adding that its Microsoft Security Response Center has already developed a patch to solve the problem - one of their quickest fix turnarounds to date.
