Handspring, which invented 3Com's Palmpilot, will unveil a new handheld computer on Tuesday that is aimed at knocking its former brainchild off its perch.
The new product has been cloaked in secrecy for the past year, but will be demonstrated on Handspring's Web site next week, although it will not be sold online until early next year when it will be launched to the retail channel, according to US reports.

The creators of the Palmpilot left 3Com, which owns Palm Computing, last year to set up their own company specifically to compete against the offering. Visor is believed to be an upgrade of the original Palmpilot, being a personal assistant that can be linked to desktop computers and networks.
But it will come with modules that can make it work as a digital camera, music player, pager and wireless telephone. The lowest price version will cost $149, which significantly undercuts the Palmpilot at $500 plus.
