Sex on the go: Porn over 3G

Mobile operator Hutchinson 3G has appointed an executive of softcore porn to look at ways of delivering pornography over third generation (3G) networks.

The initial technology available on the handsets, due to be released late next year, will allow users to download full colour static images.

Future plans will allow video clips to be downloaded and played on the phones.

Because of the huge costs involved, the operators need to recoup after shelling out over £20bn for 3G licences. Some analysts have said that third generation porn offerings could be a valuable revenue stream.

According to reports, users of the Japanese i-mode network have readily adopted unofficial third generation porn sites, suggesting that there is demand for such technology in the market.
