Samsung intends to use the next but one version of Google's Android operating system, codenamed Honeycomb, in a range of tablets that will launch in 2011.
J K Shin, Samsung's mobile communications president, explained at IFA 2010 that the firm will release a larger tablet using Android 3.5.
The company launched its 7in Galaxy Tab at IFA this week, saying that Android 2.2 Froyo was more appropriate for the tablet's size.
Shin also said that Samsung will launch a range of tablets in 2011 because he expects "very high growth" for this form factor.
The Galaxy Tab is described as an "on the go" device, rather than an "on the sofa or lap" device.
The descriptions indicate that Samsung sees tablets beginning at a large smartphone size, and expanding in proportions, and no doubt functions, up to a notebook size which will need to be held with both hands and used on the lap.
IFA 2010 has been dominated by the launch of tablets this year. Toshiba, Archos, ViewSonic and Sharp all unveiled devices in a bid to compete with Apple's iPad.
