The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann) has approved the creation of the .jobs and .travel top level domains (TLDs).

The internet management body appointed two organisations to run the newly created domains, setting rules for registration, disputes, renewals, privacy, transfers and registrar selection.

Tralliance Corporation has been appointed as steward for the .travel domain that will target travel and tourism organisations ranging from travel agents to theme parks and convention bureaux.

The company wants to limit registrations to "bona fide" travel and tourism associations, and estimates that there are roughly one million entities worldwide that would qualify for a .travel domain.

Employ Media of Cleveland, Ohio will oversee the .jobs domain which will allow registrants to advertise job vacancies on a 'www.companyname.jobs' website.

Employ does not list any limitations to the companies that can register for the new domain.

Icann is a non-profit organisation overseeing the creation and management of TLDs such as .com and .info. Country specific domain names, like .uk or .us, are managed by national organisations.

The two newly added domains bring the total to 13. Icann plans to add .cat, .post and .mobi domains, and is considering the addition of .asia, .mail and .tel. It is also considering .xxx for pornography domains.
