Integration specialist Borland has launched a new programme aimed at independent software vendors (ISVs) and value-added resellers (Vars) to increase the adoption of its development lifecycle software.

Through the Borland ISV Partner Programme, ISVs will be encouraged to embed Borland development and deployment technology in their packaged applications to add value for end users.

UK managing director Chris Purrington explained that Borland is looking to recruit companies with a cross-platform capable product.

"A good ISV to recruit will be sizeable with a successful product and relying on new technology such as Java 2 Enterprise Edition [J2EE] or .Net standards," he said.

Four salespeople are focusing on the programme in the UK and Ireland.

US examples of the partnership in action include the Carnot J2EE process engine with Borland Enterprise Server producing a business activity control system, and Borland technology embedded into the Savvion BPM Studio business process lifecycle manager.

Currently, Borland UK has just over 100 ISVs and Vars, generally using the Borland Enterprise Server or its InterBase embedded database.

Purrington suggested that Borland's flexible licensing was attractive to them.

"Borland has a standard licensing structure but it listens to customers and changes to match their needs. The aim is to increase their profit margins," he said.

Other incentives for resellers include free software demonstrations, evaluation copies that can be left on site and better discounts as they enlarge their customer bases.
