Amy Greer of Lafayette, Indiana got more than she bargained for when she downloaded Mississippi Girl by Faith Hill from iTunes.
The track was the 500,000,000th sold since the service was launched in 2003 and to go with her $0.99 purchase Ms Greer also got 10 iPods, a 10,000-song gift card (and 10 additional 50-song gift cards to go with each iPod) and four tickets with backstage passes to see Coldplay on its current world tour.
Apple has also been giving away iPods to the purchaser of every 100,000th track. The last winner, at the 499,900,000 mark, was UK Charlotte Church fan Grace Lilly from Durham.
Her purchase of the Welsh diva's current single Crazy Girl netted her an iPod Mini and 50 free songs. Lilly was the 16th Briton to win a 100,000 purchase prize.
The iTunes service was launched in the US in 2003 and in the UK last year.
