Google adds RSS feeds to homepage

Google has updated its Fusion project to allow users to add any RSS feeds and bookmarks to the front page of the search engine.

The new feature, which is still in beta, already provides the option to add information including news headlines, movie listings and the contents of the user's Gmail email box, but did not support the addition of generally available RSS feeds.

Google has also removed a feature that allowed users to get driving directions directly from the main page.

The search firm had hinted that it would add support for the RSS syndication technology when it unveiled Fusion at a company event in May.

Fusion bears a strong resemblance to my.yahoo.com, but Google maintains that its offering is not inspired by the competition.
