IBM is offering ready-to-use application lifecycle management tools

IBM has released a new solution designed to aid the provisioning of software in a cloud environment.

Rational Software Delivery Services for Cloud Computing includes ready-to-use application lifecycle management tools for development and testing, as well as features designed to speed up the process.

IBM claimed that this will allow developers to create and deliver cloud-based services in a timely and cost-effective manner, and help organisations to roll out the services across the enterprise.

The company will release a framework for developing and testing within its cloud systems, which it said will allow businesses to lower costs and roll out systems more efficiently.

IBM explained in a statement that a process that might have taken weeks to complete could be reduced to just a few minutes "in some cases".

The release and associated services include support for Java, open source and Microsoft's .NET, while behind-the-firewall control is offered for enterprises that want more finite control over their cloud services and applications.

IBM claimed that this will also make additional development and customisation possible for those users.

"Enterprises are looking for optimal business models to lower the cost of developing and deploying software while maximising existing investments," said Daniel Sabbah, general manager of IBM Rational Software.

"Cloud-based models offer flexible, instant sourcing options based on a team's needs while enhancing control of their delivery models.

"With more and more customers treating software as a strategic business asset, the combined value of the new offerings can help them gain the utmost value from their investments in IT across the application lifecycle."

IBM is also offering training services and a free beta of some of its cloud-based tools.
