Gaming giant Nintendo has invited grandparents of every age and gaming experience to a Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes A Day tournament at its Nintendo World retail store in New York.
The best gaming grandparent will earn the title of 'Nintendo's Coolest Grandparent of the Year' and win two Nintendo DS Lite systems and 10 games. The face off will take place on 9 September.
Nintendo has sold more than 21 million units worldwide of its Nintendo DS console which holds the crown as the most popular portable gaming system in the world.
More than 200,000 Nintendo DS Lite units were sold in the first 10 days of its European launch in early July, pushing total sales of the platform over the five million mark in Europe.
"Nintendo DS has introduced thousands of new people to gaming and will continue to expand the gaming population due to its ability to appeal to gamers and non-gamers," said Laurent Fischer, marketing director at Nintendo Europe.
"During the Nintendo DS Lite launch weekend, retailers across Europe said that they had never seen such a vast array of different people buying the product, everyone from businessmen to young women to grandfathers."
