Skype is now available on Nokia's N800 internet tablet, enabling VoIP communication anywhere with an available wireless internet connection.
"The Nokia N800 gives people easy access to the internet and it is a natural step that they will want to make Skype calls away from their desktop," said Ari Virtanen, vice president of convergence products at Nokia.
Skype for the Nokia N800 will be available to download for existing users, and the latest release of Nokia N800 devices will include a Skype download link.
"Skype for the Nokia N800 is another important step in our mobility strategy, " said Eric Lagier, head of mobile business development at Skype.
"Our users are no longer just using Skype on their desktops. With the growth of mobile devices and Wi-Fi, consumers expect to be connected wherever they are, at the office, at home or on the move."
A Nokia spokeswoman told vnunet.com that "as the N800 does not have any phone functionality, users will need to link their mobile phone to the tablet via Bluetooth in order to make and receive voice calls over Skype".
Support for Skype for the Nokia N800 is available with the feature upgrade release to the latest OS 2007 edition.
The upgrade also introduces the Adobe Flash 9 browser plug-in, support for larger capacity memory cards and enhanced online use-times.
