Carphone Warehouse is expected to admit tomorrow that new customers of its 'free' broadband TalkTalk service will not be connected until August.
Industry rumours suggest that chief executive Charles Dunstone will blame the delay on the company's call centres being unable to cope with the high level of public interest in the offer.
Carphone Warehouse is thought to be signing up 2,500 customers a day - 150,000 in eight weeks - since it began offering phone calls and broadband for £21 a month.
There are also believed to be unforeseen technical problems with unbundling the BT local loop, which gave the telco its old monopoly over home phone connections.
Carphone Warehouse is keen to sign up as many customers as possible before rivals such as Orange get their own 'free' broadband packages off the ground.

IT'S TIME TO TAKE TALK TALK TO COURT
I have read the comments on this and other sites with increasing anger. My story is identical & to date I have lost over £200. They never reply to mail of any kind and have even disconnected my line so I'm having to access the net via a friend. My family & numerous other associates have canCelled all of their Talk Talk services (including Carphone Warehouse mobiles) in protest at the way I have been treated. My brother is a solicitor & he has made it clear that there is a good case for suing Talk Talk & there are solicitors out there prepared to act on a no win no fee basis. Talk Talk clearly think that no-one will be bothered to take them to task. Well I can tell you this, I am seriously considering making this my life's mission.. IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE PREPARED TO JOIN FORCES?

talk talk delays
Why didn't they get it all set up before offering the deal to the public? It's frustrating waiting for so long to be connected

TALKTALK DISGRACE
I first applied for the package with the 'free' broadband on 25/4/06. I'm still waiting for the broadband modem after phoning constantly, writing, emailing - never getting replies - the customer care is non existant, I've spoken to their call centres in Preston to Johannesburg!! All I get is the same old rubbish, that's when you can actually get through. I've had delayed go live land line, I've been without broadband now since end of May when I cancelled my Tiscali - this is when the Talktalk bb should have gone live - Now 8/8/06, still waiting, costing me a fortune on dial up very very slow internet access. Totally frustrating. I've finally 'bit the bullit' today by cancelling my bank from making any further payments, regardless of the £70 for breach of contract - as far as I can see they are the ones in breach of contract by not supplying me with the package I applied for!! So I shall have to continue to battle it out - but at least they should be trying to contact me for a change!! Many of the customer care people (I use the term loosley) tell you when you say you are not yet getting the broadband but are paying your bills that broadband is actually free and that you're not paying for it - I totally disagree and have told more than one of them, not that it makes a bit of difference, I only took out this T3I package for the 'free' broadband, I wouldn't have taken the International calls otherwise, no doubt I'm not alone. Obviously thousands of others are having problems as when I've been trying to call the cancellation line for the last couple of days it has been unobtainable!! No doubt many others are trying to cancel!! LETS STICK TOGETHER AND SHOW THEM THEY CANNOT GET AWAY WITH THE LAME EXCUSE THAT, AND I QUOTE 'WE HAVE BEEN VERY, VERY BUSY'. Yes we know - busy signing customers up but forgetting to provide the service!!! Perhaps it would be a good idea to stop broadcasting the adverts and concentrate on the poor people who are still not getting what they are paying for - Free indeed!

More delay
Date for transfer passed never recieved modem or instalation pack , when investigated said they were waiting for BT to transfer found out that they had forwarded the wrong MAC code now tell me it will be another TEN DAYS before connection. Also phone service was delayed for over a week for extra services were activated, Over all sorry I made the transfer.

Whats the point of the call centre?
When you do get though they have no information about your order. They just keep on talking your MAC code and then say it will be another three weeks.I'm on my second soon to be third. No mail update as their web pages promises! They should just fix the web site providing details of progress (mine still says a delivery in May) and employ more engineers rather than cannon fodder call centre staff. This really is poor. It is costing me £10 a month more for my phone and broadband whilst they delay rather than a £20 saving.

8 weeks gone & still waiting for Talktalk broadband
I placed my order on 11th April. It's now 7th June. The order tracking system says that my broadband should activate in May. I still have not received my modem or any information about when I will. I have received my first bill!

Talk Talk Broadband
Your article is confusing. Why would the delay be down to the call centres if the problems are technical. TalkTalk are going to start off with a lot of dissatisfied customers as they do not be in a position to honour their obligations. Compensation?
