Dell has unveiled its PowerVault DL2000 storage offering for dedicated disk-to-disk backup which could appeal to enterprises with few dedicated IT staff and no reliance on tape backup.
The new hardware and software package is said to dramatically simplify setting up and maintaining disk backup for the medium-sized enterprise.
Dell claims that one of the most time-consuming tasks, configuring disks for Raid, is automated as is disk provisioning.
Customers are offered two management software bundles with the system, the recently released CommVault Simpana 7 and Symantec Backup Exec 12.5.
Besides support for Exchange and SQL Server, the latest release of Backup Exec can also backup and archive Microsoft and VMware virtualised operating systems.
The Dell PowerVault DL2000 will ship later this month.
