ITV and the BBC are to take part in trials of mobile TV services, according to industry rumours.
The six-month experiment to broadcast television content live to mobile phones will be carried out with handset makers LG and Samsung.
The technology behind the proposed service is normally used for digital radio.
The BBC will initially broadcast its News 24 channel, while ITV has not yet named the service it will use in the test.
If the two companies are happy with the results, they will expand the mobile TV trial to include more channels.
The two companies are expected to charge a £10 monthly subscription for the service.
However, the BBC refused to be drawn on its plans for mobile TV and a spokesman said that no announcement was planned.

In Japan
I can get 8 channels of tv on my mobile here in japan and it doesn't cost me anything, the phone has no aerial. Also most cars have this too here. Why should you have to pay for it if the technology is already available via the normal method ie analogue tv.
