Internet entrepreneur and government advisor Martha Lane Fox has begun a review of the Directgov service.

Directgov now falls under the remit of the Cabinet Office, and Lane Fox said that her review will look at ways to modify the service in order to improve the online delivery of public services.

"I am leading a review of the service to assess how it can be transformed and redirected to further drive efficiencies," she said. "I have asked a small group of advisors from business and the public sector to assist me."

Lane Fox suggested that Directgov could be stripped back to its roots, and is keen to get as much input on the changes as possible.

"It is not often you get the opportunity to step back and assess how things should be different, so I'm interested in all ideas, particularly the radical and off-the-wall," she said.

There are four areas open to discussion: what objectives the government should have for the pages; who should do what; how the platform should be shared; and what trends in digital delivery can be used.

Interested parties are asked to refer to these before making any suggestions, which must arrive before 3 September.
