Britannia Airways soars with Interliant

Interliant has implemented the INIT Team hosted collaborative working system at Britannia Airways.

The solution is based on Lotus QuickPlace 2.0, which enables users to create shared workspaces on the internet, or locally on an intranet. These can support individuals or project teams.

Interliant has expanded the capabilities of QuickPlace to provide online access to features such as project management tools and Microsoft Office applications.

Andy Spratt, director of operations at Interliant UK, said that QuickPlace was "a good product, and a well-established tool for online working. Interliant adds extra value to that by managing the environment and ensuring security."

The solution is hosted on Dell PowerEdge servers at Interliant's UK data centre. DS3 links into the data centre are managed by WorldCom with UUNet providing connectivity.

Interliant can manage connectivity over a leased line, virtual private network or general internet connection. Britannia has selected access via a broadband connection.

During a six-month pilot Britannia realised a number of benefits from the system, including better internal workflow and the ability to work securely with users outside the organisation.

"We worked with Britannia to produce a proof of concept model," explained Spratt. "When it decided on a dedicated environment, making the appropriate changes to the infrastructure was straightforward."

In addition to creating the hosted environment, Interliant is managing data backup, network monitoring and high-speed access on an ongoing basis.
