An SSD or Solid State Drive is a storage device that uses chip-based memory components to hold data, rather than a rotating magnetic disk used in a conventional hard drive.

SSDs are typically based on Flash memory, which is accessed on a block basis like a hard drive. This allows SSDs to be used as a direct replacement for a hard drive.

However, while SSDs are less susceptible to physical shock than hard drives and generally boast faster access times, they typically offer less capacity and are much more costly in terms of the price for each megabyte of storage
