An E-reader or E-book reader is a device used for viewing electronic books, and are typically about the size of a paperback, but much thinner.
E-Reader devices are mostly based on a screen technology called e-ink, which currently only display in black-and-white. This delivers a high contrast display for comfortable reading in ambient light conditions and only consumes energy when the screen content is changed, allowing for a long battery life.
Notable E-Reader devices include the Amazon Kindle and Sony Reader models.
A number of E-book file formats are in use, and Sony and Amazon support different types. E-readers also support plain text and Acrobat .PDF files.
