A browser is an application used to access content on the world wide web.
Browsers have many functions designed to help make this experience as fluid as possible, such as storing bookmarks for favourite websites, saving the history of the sites a user visits and the ability to run extension applications, such as Adobe's Flash plugin.
There are a wide number of browsers available, inlcuding Microsoft's Internet Explorer, Apple's Safari, Mozilla's Firefox, Google's Chrome and Opera from the company of the same name.
All of those just listed are available for Windows PCs, but some browsers also target smartphones and other platforms, such as Opera Mini and Skyfire.
