This is quite a short-necked device, making it well-suited to small desk areas. Despite its compact size, however, there is quite a wealth of features packed into this display, which has full TCO'95 ergonomics and emissions approval.

Equipped with a 0.25mm aperture grille tube, the Professional Series PT775 has a 16in viewable diagonal screen size and an anti-glare coating.

Signal input is via either 15-pin D-Sub or BNC connectors at the rear.

Image quality is enhanced using double-focusing circuitry, and the monitor can be used virtually anywhere on the planet thanks to its universal power supply. The top resolution available is 1600 x 1280 at 75Hz, although on a display of this size it is probably better to go for 1280 x 1024 at 85Hz.

All display adjustment options are accessed through four buttons on the front panel. The on-screen menu is arranged quite logically, so it is not hard to find the appropriate function to adjust. In addition, this menu is remarkably comprehensive, offering the option to customise and modify virtually every aspect of the display. Not only are the usual size and position controls present, along with advanced geometry controls such as pincushion, trapezoid and parallelogram distortion, but there is also the ability to modify convergence, focus, purity and Moire distortion, in addition to the usual colour temperature pre-sets. However, the lack of rotary brightness and contrast controls is a bit irritating.

The software supplied with this monitor includes a power-saving function for Windows 3.1x and DOS users, plus a monitor information file for Windows 95.

VERDICT:

This tube has a sharp and crisp display. By default there is some misconvergence, but this can be all but eliminated using the on-screen menu.

Score: 8.
