Verdict

Hugely popular cross-platform messaging service. Beware of data limits if you're a heavy user.

Review Rating: rating

Type: Free for personal use only

Platform: Android

Manufacturer: Kik

Price: Free

Although there are a number of different messaging apps availible across many different platforms, not all are as straightforward to use as we'd like. Wouldnt it be nice if there were a cross-platform service that was as easy-to-use as it is to send a text?

Kik is a free messaging service available for iPhone, Android, Windows Phone 7, Symbian, and BlackBerry users. Although it doesnt boast some of the features found in other apps, it's quick and reliable. The app has also gained a huge popularity and boasts some 14 million users.

Simply choose a name, register an email address and your ready to start using the service. It compares your contact book with that of other Kik users and then tells you which of these people are using the service. Kik Messenger uses your data plan or WiFi to send and receive messages. Less than 1KB of data is used to send messages on Kik and it uses approximately 100KB to send or receive a picture.
