Extended Task Manager
Get more detail from open processes using this replacement task manager

The Task Manager has always been an essential part of the Windows operating system. If your system runs slowly or is unresponsive, it’s the first port of call to check for running applications. You try and find if one of these processes are causing CPU load to increase and, if so, you can try and close the problematic process.

The trouble with the standard Task Manager is that it’s fairly basic and you can’t always get all the information you require, causing confusion when you try and find the processes that’s affecting your system. This leads some users seeking an alternative.

The Extended Task Manager is designed to provide additional Windows process management features and information about disk activity and network port usage. The "Disk I/O" chart allows you to monitor which applications utilises most of your disk during a particular task.

There is also a network port monitoring feature that allows you to view anyone connected to your computer and from which IP address and another useful feature is the ability to locate Windows processes that lock a specific file. For example, if you are unable to delete or rename a file, you can quickly find how it is used and possibly exit or kill the application that locks it.
